Washington offers five more collegiate sports programs to both men and women, with one more offered to women only.
The five offered to both men and women at this time are cross country, golf, rowing, tennis and track and field.
Beyond that, UW women also compete in gymnastics.
The oldest, one of the most successful and now most famous programs is men's rowing, which has been in existence at the University of Washington since 1901.
Its fame was greatly boosted by the late 2023 release of the movie "The Boys in the Boat."
The story line is about the Husky junior varsity boat that overcame the varsity boat, the rest of the nation and then the world by winning the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
Washington beat the host Germans in a photo finish in front of their leader Adolf Hitler, who stormed off in disgust.
The modern Huskies are also making history, including a notable feat in May of 2015.
Washington became the first program to win five consecutive Intercollegiate Rowing Association men's varsity eight national titles, and the Huskies also won 14 of 14 overall races including heats and semifinals. They were the first school to do so in a regatta history that dates all the way back to 1895.
The women's program at the University of Washington is also impressive, winning 11 of 12 races at the 2025 Big Ten Invitational.
All in all, Washington appears to have the Midas Touch in any sport it competes in, with everything it touches turning into gold to some degree.
